Pebbles Chicken

Pebbles’ Story

Pebbles Chicken was never meant to be ordinary. She came into the world already a little crooked, a little fluffy, and very sure of herself.

Before she met Juni, Pebbles lived in a dark, dusty farm coop with nearly a hundred other chickens. It was loud. It was crowded. And every so often, a small human would burst into the coop, chasing the chickens just for fun. Pebbles learned to stay alert, to watch for shadows, and to move fast when she needed to. Life was about surviving the scramble.

Then one day, everything changed.

Before Pebbles came home, Juni did something very brave and very kind.

She sat down on the floor of a dark, dusty chicken coop filled with noise and fluttering wings and decided not to chase, point, or choose. Instead, Juni waited. She said that whichever chicken came to her would be the one she took home.

Pebbles noticed.

While the other chickens scattered and rushed, Pebbles stepped forward. Slowly. Carefully. She crossed the coop and came right to Juni, as if she had already decided.

That was the moment everything changed.

Juni didn’t pick Pebbles.

Pebbles chose Juni.

And Pebbles has never once regretted that choice 🐔💛

Pebbles didn’t fully understand what was happening, only that she was being lifted gently instead of chased, carried instead of cornered. Later, she would hear that she was very lucky. Every other chicken from that coop was sold for meat. Pebbles went home.

And Pebbles never forgot.

Now she lives a completely different life, one filled with sunshine, safety, and a very important daily ritual. Every afternoon, when Pebbles hears the school bus rumble down the road, she runs. As fast as her chicken legs can manage. Straight toward her favorite human.

Juni.

Juni scoops her up without hesitation, feathers and all, and Pebbles settles right in. She allows the cuddling. Encourages it, even. This is her human, and Pebbles loves her with the fierce devotion of someone who knows exactly what was lost and what was saved.

Pebbles still keeps watch. She still notices everything. She still stands a little in front when Earl freezes or danger feels close. But now she does it from a place of safety, trust, and love.

She knows what it means to be chosen.

And she chooses Juni every single day 🐔💛

Here are five genuinely cool chicken facts, Pebbles-approved:

  1. Some chickens lay green (or blue) eggs.
Pebbles is one of these magical overachievers. The color comes from a genetic trait that adds pigment as the egg forms. Same nutrition, extra flair.
  2. Chickens can recognize and remember people.
They know their humans by face, voice, and behavior. Pebbles doesn’t run to any bus. She runs to Juni’s bus. Big difference.
  3. Chickens see more colors than humans do.
They can see ultraviolet light. Which means the world looks way more sparkly and detailed to a chicken. Pebbles is basically living in deluxe vision mode.
  4. They have a full vocabulary of sounds.
Chickens make over 30 different vocalizations to warn of danger, announce food, complain, or gossip. Pebbles absolutely has opinions and knows how to share them.
  5. Chickens can run surprisingly fast.
Up to about 9 miles per hour when motivated. Like, say, when a favorite human is coming home. 🐔💨

Chickens aren’t simple yard decorations. They’re smart, social, emotional little dinosaurs with feathers.

Pebbles just happens to be one of the very best ones
